Recreation And Sports

Many football fans like to show off their loyalty. The most common way of doing this is by wearing football jerseys. Proudly they display their favorite team member’s team jerseys. Buying authentic jerseys can get expensive though. The cheapest authentic jersey you can find is still well over one hundred dollars. This increases even more for the more popular players.

Many people have to cut back their spending, because of the struggling economy. However this does not decrease their desire to support their favorite team and player. This is where replica football shirts come into play. Buying these shirts allows the fan to continue supporting his or her favorite player.

Replica football shirts can be found at most sporting good stores. The cost is significantly lower than buying the authentic sports jerseys. Typically, you should be able to find a replica for around twenty to thirty dollars. That is quite a savings from an authentic jersey.

You should be aware that the quality of the shirt will not be as good as an authentic one. Frequent washings will cause the shirt to fade faster as well. And if the shirt is not washed as directed, stretching or shrinking may appear as well. These shirts will need to be replaced more quickly than an authentic shirt as well.

Many people that buy replica football shirts like having the ability to buy more than one. If you were to buy several authentic jerseys the price would be quite high. However, if you buy replicas you are able to buy multiply shirts for the price of one authentic jersey. Most people have more than one favorite player or team. When buying an authentic jersey you have to decide which player is your most favorite. What if your favorite player is constantly switching teams? Then, you would be constantly spending a lot of money to keep up with the appropriate jersey being worn.

While they do tend to wear out soon, replica football shirts appear the same as the authentic ones. Unless someone is closely examining your clothing, no one can tell whether it is real or not. Replicas also tend to be lighter in weight. Replicas are made from a cotton blend, whereas the real ones are made from a cotton and polyester blend. This is another reason that they are so much cheaper.

You can get replica football shirts for professional football players as well as college football players. The college shirts are harder to find, depending on your location in the region. However, you are sure to be able to find any player’s replica shirt on the internet. This is a great way to follow an up and coming football player from college through pro ball.

No matter who your favorite team or player is you are sure to find a replica shirt. Just think, the money you save could be used to buy tickets to a game this year. Instead of just supporting your team around town, why not do it at a game?

San Francisco Parks Recreation

San Francisco may soon start renting out its parks for more music festivals.

The City’s recreation and parks department may rent out a group of city parks including McLaren Park, Dolores Park, Ferry Plaza and Stern Grove to the highest bidder. All of those parks have held free concerts in the past.

The idea comes after negotiations  were made for the Outside Lands music festival, which takes place in a portion of Golden Gate Park. The City will rent out part of the park for the three-day event Aug. 28-30 in a deal that could be the first of many to come. The three-year contract for Outside Lands will bring the City $2.85 million.

Officials say they already have a list of qualified promoters from their search to lease space for the Golden Gate Park festival. Those promoters will be contacted to see if they’re still interested in renting park space, Parks and Recreation Department spokeswoman Lisa Seitz Gruwell told the Examiner.

The department says it needs the revenue.

It has already had to eliminate 80 positions this year to help close its budget gap.

I think dog parks are great. They’re good for dogs and their owners, obviously, but they also benefit the rest of the community — dogs that get regular exercise and socialize with other dogs are much less likely to cause trouble. It’s a way for residents to connect with neighbors they might otherwise never meet, and in some cases makes good use of property that might otherwise be neglected or go to waste.

But according to an article in the Boston Globe, advocates are now touting dog parks as another tool in the fight against crime.

It was apparently one of the main arguments used to raise money for the first dog park in the Boston neighborhood of Dorchester, and Charlestown residents are doing the same thing.

City police, who have long urged dog owners to keep a lookout for crime on their daily walks, like the idea of more positive presence on the streets.

“It’s an effective tool,’’ said Boston police Superintendent William B. Evans, who heads the department’s bureau of field services. “People with dogs who are out in the neighborhood – that’s more eyes and ears for us.’’

J. Alain Ferry, founder of BostonDOG, said his group has been making the anticrime angle a selling point in its pitch to have a dog park on Boston Common.

“Certainly one of the most appealing aspects of a dog park’’ is the anticrime component, he said. “It’s going to help clean up the neighborhood, and you might not have a lot of people loitering or late night cruising.’’

It’s hard to know the dog parks’ link to quashing crime. Boston police have not kept track.

Advocates for dog parks point to San Francisco and Washington, D.C., where they say dog owners spruced up unused and run-down lots into havens for their companions. Authorities say dogs have just three parks in all of Boston to scamper unleashed – two in the South End and one, which is newly opened, in South Boston. Boston Common has some off-leash hours as well.

What do you think? I know the circumstances are different in the less-urban areas here in the Capital Region, which might also explain why there aren’t as many dog runs around. But do Albany’s four dog parks make a difference in the city’s quality of life?

The SRB had an old web site in need of updating and when I was asked to help, I was more than happy to do so. I did not fully realize how big the British-style brass band movement was in North America until working on this project.

The new SRB site is rendered in a pure CSS design and includes a content management system — so they can do most of their own updating — a login area for the band members only, and integration of Flickr photostreams and YouTube videos.

Parts of this site project were a bit of a challenge; I learned a lot of new things that I hope to apply to future projects.

Check it out! Look for Arizona State professor Dr. John Ericson in some of the pictures. Read the rest of this entry »

Example Of Recreation

Do you fancy owning and playing a character in a massively multiplayer online game that looks somewhat or exactly like you? Perhaps strutting around a virtual world with a character that looks like Brad Pitt or George Clooney is more to your liking? Devilish vixens instead of hunky actors? Why not?

If your answer is a resounding “yes,” then Perfect World is probably for you.

I’ve played around with Perfect World ’s character customization in the past, and documented it here on MMOtaku under the title, Endless Fun With Perfect World ’s Character Customization. Well, it’s really fun; it brings out the artist in every player wanting to be different from the rest of the pack.

Some players have taken character customization up a notch by designing their toons to look like celebrities. Here’s an example:

Yes, I admit that Rowan Atkinson, a.k.a. Mr. Bean, isn’t the most comely chap to copy, but it does wonders for popularity. And in case you haven’t tried it, it’s easier to copy the likeness of public figures who have exaggerated features.

Well, what are you waiting for? Register a Perfect World account and play with its amazing character customization feature. Read the rest of this entry »

What Is Sports And Physical Recreation

July 1st, 2009

Sport and recreation organisations in the Northern Victoria Region will be able to get more locals involved in physical activity, thanks to a boost in Victorian Government funding.

The Member for Northern Victoria Region, Candy Broad today announced 2009 Country Action Grant Scheme and Victalent funding to strengthen local grassroots sport and recreation organisations.

Ms Broad said that projects in Warracknabeal, Birchip, Rupanyup and St Arnaud were among 143 projects to share in the $180,000 funding package.

The grants will fund:
• $1,500 to the Crocquet is Ok project at the Warracknabeal Croquet Club. This project’s aim is to run a 2 week “round robin” competition of Aussie Croquet between all groups of the community to provide exercise and enjoyment for all ages from 10 years to over 80 years.

• $4,800 to The Lifeblood of Local Sport project at the Birchip Business and Learning Centre. This project aims to improve the capacity of the local sporting clubs in Birchip by improving the skills and qualifications of coaches, umpires and first aid providers in the football, netball, hockey and swimming clubs.

Use hiking as a soft adventure fun day trip where people may prepare for longer, strenuous trips. Remember to keep everyone engaged with each other, whether there are two or ten people.

Themed hikes around nature, wildlife, and history where more emphasis is spent on exploring and not actual hiking bring individuals together. Park Rangers make great docents providing local expertise of these topics. Examples are:

  • Be sure to stop and point out flowers on the trail like Mariposa lilies, poppies, fiddlenecks, buttercups, and shooting starts in the spring. Or, the how the black oaks glow golden in the autumn.
  • Make a game out of finding butterflies and lizards (and other animals) on the trail.
  • Geocaching is a new favorite activity to add to a hike with finding hidden containers using GPS units that may be found in Henry Coe State Park.
  • Visit an area like Gilroy Hot Springs which is rich in history to explore the older buildings from 1800s and how the springs were used for healing. Read the rest of this entry »

Values Of Recreation

July 1st, 2009

Oregon’s high desert has world-class wildlife and wildland values that deserve protection. Likewise, the region has outstanding wind power resources that could be developed as part of state and national efforts to create energy independence and develop clean sources of renewable energy. Oregonians have the opportunity to develop wind energy responsibly. The key to successful development will be siting wind power strategically in areas suitable for wind power facilities after taking into account other valuable resources in those areas. As interest in constructing utility-scale wind power facilities increases, siting decisions that allow wind power to be developed in a way that protects special landscapes and sensitive wildlife will mutually benefit wind power companies, government entities, local communities, and the larger public.

This report provides an initial analysis of wildlife habitats and landscapes sensitive to wind developments throughout Oregon’s high desert. Some of these lands and species are sufficiently sensitive or unique to require the exclusion of wind energy development altogether, while other categories would permit wind energy development if certain best practices are implemented. By overlaying wind resource potential with these other natural values, a picture emerges showing where wind power development will have the least social conflict and environmental impact.
